A Wall Art on Canvas Using Gilding

Hello Everyone!! I am Shantha and I am here today to share another Gilding technique which can be done on canvas. I have made a small piece which can be put up to adorn any wall. This project uses stenciling, gilding and the Dream Cut …. all together!! It’s great fun to use everything possible to make a piece.

Here’s how I made this canvas:

I started off by applying a base paint. Since the designer leaves come in metallic colours and I will be using Gold and Silver Designer leaves on this canvas, I decided to go for chalk paints for the base coat. I have used the soothing “Lagoon Breeze” to paint the canvas. While waiting for this to dry, I moved on to the next step.

I used the Dream Cut and the Thin Cut Die: Ornamental Doily to cut out a doily from a card stock.

I applied the Mont Marte Leafing Size on the surface of the ornamental Doily and left it for about ten minutes so that the Leafing Size turns tacky before I place the Designer leaf on it.

Once it had the right tackiness, I then placed the Silver Designer Leaf onto the Doily.

After a couple of minutes, I used a dry brush to rub off excess of the Designer Leaf. So the portion that had not adhered to the Leafing Size came off and I was left with a silver Doily.

I then went back to my canvas. I used a leaf stencil to apply the Leafing Size on one side of the canvas.  Before placing the Designer leaf on this, I left it for about ten minutes so that the Leafing Size turns appropriately tacky.

I then placed the Golden Designer Leaf on the stenciled portion of the canvas.

After a couple of minutes, I used a dry brush to rub off excess of the Designer Leaf. So the portion that had not adhered to the Leafing Size came off and I was left with these beautiful golden leaves.

I then used craft glue to adhere the ornamental silver doily onto the canvas.

Finally, I used spray varnish to seal my work.

Isn’t it a very soothing combination of elements?

Do let me know how you liked this project.

Have a nice Day!!
