Hello and a happy new year, everyone!
Here’s my first project for 2018–quite a break from the warm Holiday reds, greens, and gold. Today, I have a tag album in a box, this time for a baby girl who’s turning one.
I was caught between Baby Giggles and Watercolor Ballet for this project, but decided to go with the latter– using the former only for the sentiments. I did use a couple sheets from the Pretty Pastels collection to complement the florals. Watercolor Floral Ballet is a refreshing mix of delicate translucent florals and foliage in summery colors, and the solid pastels seemed to get along well.
These are the sheets I picked out of the pack for my project–I also dug into my stash of alterable boxes and found this little guy. I was tired of the stark white that most gadgets are packaged in–this was a welcome change! I decided to retain the kraft base and not mat every available inch.
I used pattern papers to mat the outside of the box and line the lid.
Next, I cut 6 tags (each measuring 2.5×5.5 inches) out of a sheet of white cardstock from the store–these will be my pages. This is very sturdy cardstock which will hold its own through the gluing and sewing I have planned. I went on to trim pattern papers down, to make mats for these tags.
I alternated florals and foliage. I do add smaller mats in solid colors over these later.
I stopped at this point to go through my beads and charms to see if I wanted a charm dangle for this album. If you’ve seen my older albums you’d know I love making chunky charm dangles–but something about this project told me I should skip a metal charm dangle and go for a softer look using crochet twine, pearls, and tassels. (Yes, that was sneaky–I just had to have tassels!)!
I made a bead charm for the recipient’s name–and while I had the beads and sequins out, I created a shaker mix to go with the papers. I did tone the green down eventually.
I made a couple shaker elements–one of which I ended up using for the album. I’m holding on to the birthday shaker element to make it into a card or something such, later. The Watercolor paper pack comes with this cool cut-apart sheet of greetings and floral sprays–perfect for cards, tags or mini album covers.
The baby girl sentiment is from the Baby Giggles paper pack.
I had decided to not use dimensional embellishments on these tags (to keep the album from bulking up before I add pics) so I grabbed a couple dies and went about making my own embellishments out of pattern papers.
Here’s what I had. I also trimmed out pieces of acetate and organza fabric from the store.
I created 6 mini decorative tags and 4 shaker tags to add between my pages. The pink polka tags are offcuts from the shaker elements I made earlier and the white tags are from a tag and twine pack from the store.
I took these to my sewing machine and added stitched details to the tags. I reshaped the shaker elements into tags. All I had left to do now, was add a shaker element to the lid of the box and add sentiments to the tags.
These sentiments are from the Baby Giggles pack.
Here’s my finished project.
