Decorative Study Table Accessories with Stencils

Hello arty-crafty friends!

Harshada Rege here and this is my first post on the blog. Firstly, I want to thank Itsy Bitsy for giving me this wonderful opportunity and I am really excited to share my creations with you all.

This month’s Blog Challenge is all about using the newly launched 4×4 inch stencils in your creations. These stencils are so handy and easy to use, plus there are a variety of designs to choose from. They create a crisp and beautiful patterns on different bases. They can be used to add texture and interest in mixed media and card making, decoupage, on fabric, school projects, etc.

I have used these stencils to design study table accessories. Here’s a step by step tutorial for the same.

For this project, I have used a clipboard and a pen holder from the wooden decorables section in the store and a bookmark from my stash. Before working on these projects, I did sanding for a smooth finish.

Altered Clipboard

I coloured the clipboard by mixing Passionate Plum and Charcoal chalk paints to get a darker shade. After the chalk paint dried completely, I did stencilling on both the sides of my clipboard using stencil-garden-vine-4×4-inch and mixed-media-paste-2-in-1white-400gm

I came across a new and interesting technique which I want to share with you all. I call it ‘Marbling Effect using stencils’ After the texture paste dried completely, I took chalk paints- Lavender Blush and Chocolate Truffle on my mat, took the colour on the tip of my finger and gently applied over the stenciled texture paste (it’s to be done in the same way as we apply metallic wax but in a more gentle way, with care. Do not rub it). This is how it looks..

Thereafter, I decoupaged one square and one jar shaped coaster, using Butterfly Decoupage Paper and Little Birdie Deco Magic Glue – Matte. I then stenciled the texts ‘Believe’ and ‘Hope’ using the new 4×4 stencils- Believe in dreams and Dream and Achieve. I used Decor Varnish Matte to seal the coasters.

I distressed the edges of the coasters using Teal Tango Chalk paint and stuck them on my clipboard using foam adhesives. I converted the jar coaster into a floral jar by adhering beautiful Little Birdie Handmade flowers- Arcadia Fairy Sparkle and Marisa Shabby Chic. I also adhered an antique metal clip on the board using silicon glue.

I added chipboards – Thriving Thistles on the top of the clipboard, coloured them with chalk paints and covered the steel clip with burlap strips and hemp twine. Finally I adhered burlap strips with silicon glue on all sides of the clipboard for more finished look and my altered clipboard is ready!

2.Pen Holder

I coloured the pen holder using Teal Tango Chalk paint and did dry brushing using Tattered Lace and Hydrangea Blue. I coloured the rim and the inside part of the pen holder using Passionate Plum Chalk paint.

Thereafter I used 4×4 inch stencil- Timeless Mandala on the top and base of the pen holder using chalk paints- Passionate Plum and Butternut Squash. I took strips from the mixed media strips pack and stencilled the word ‘Achieve’ from the 4×4 inch stencil – Dream Achieve and adhered it using silicon glue. I also adhered a paper cord on the top and bottom of the burlap strip to secure its ends and on the rim of the pen holder with a small handmade flower for a finished look.

3.Bookmark

I decoupaged the bookmark using a paper from the 6×6 inch Fairy Sparkle paper pack and Deco Magic Glue Matte.

I stencilled a beautiful mandala design using 4×4″ Mandala Extravaganza and Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste. After drying, I rubbed Metallic Wax Antique Gold for little gold sheen on the beautiful texture. I stamped ‘Best Wishes’ on a small cardstock piece and adhered it on the top of the bookmark. I fussy cut the butterflies from the Fairy Sparkle paper pack element sheet and stuck on the stamped paper and the base. I finally added a jute twine on the top of the bookmark.

I would like to share couple of images of the new technique used on the stenciled textures. Here I have created a background for a card using another stencil and chalk paints. Do give it a try and let us know.
