‘Fairy Garden’ Mixed Media Mini Album

Hello crafty friends!

It’s DT Daksha here. For today’s DT post I have made a doorway to the ‘Fairy Garden’ mini album with mixed media effects.

In the recent months Itsy Bitsy store has introduced Little Birdie’s Metallic  Wax in  some wonderful colors and also some new paper packs. I have used them in today’s project. Before I begin with the pictorial, I must say these waxes are amazing and super easy to use. You can see beautiful wax color effects on my texture base.  As usual this project  also is a picture heavy post so let’s directly start without any further delay. You can check the list of all the supplies I have used  in the list mentioned at the end of this post… I have mentioned the links for each product.

let’s start with the step by step instructions:

First I have cut 2 piece of black cardstock (350-400 GSM) in 5.25x 7.25″.

Then I  arranged the popsicle craft sticks (Big in size)…See the image above.

In each piece of cardstock pieces I stuck 6 pieces of popsicle stick….if some portion of the cardstock can be seen after covering it with craft sticks, just cut out that portion with the scissors.

Stuck two pieces of popsicle sticks horizontally as you can see in the picture. Now our gate is getting shape!

Now let’ start working on the album. Here you can use any dairy, book or you can make any type of album, binding it in your style. Today I tried a very easy binding style.

Cut 10 picece of cardstock in 4.5″x7.5″ if you want more pages you can cut more. For the hinges I have cut 12 pieces of same the colour cardstock in size 1.5″x7.5″.

Now take 1.5″x7.5″ cardstock and score on the shorter side at .75″. Repeat the same on all the 12 pieces.

Now cut on both the sides with a little angular slant so that when we join the hinges with our pages the corner doesn’t show. ( Refer the image)

Now stick two of the cardstock pages 5.5″x7.5″ on two sides of the hinge. This way keep sticking all the pages one by one with the hinges.

Once all the 10 pages are stuck, stick one hinge piece on each front and back page also.

Now take a piece of the black card stock in (350-400 GSM) in 7.75″x 12″  and on the longer side score at 5.75″ from both sides. In the middle you will get 1/2″ to accomodate the hinge portion.

Now stick the front and back hinges with the front and back part of this black cardstock.( See picture)

Here don’t stick glue in the middle 1/2″ part..only on the hinges on the first and last pages and that will stick with the front and back part of your album cover.

Our album cover with 10 pages is ready. You can decorate the inside pages as you wish.

Now let’s do the mixed media part and decorate the cover page and the back page.

Take the two gate pieces we made earlier.

I have applied 2 in 1 Texture Paste and with a toothpick gave the woodgrain effect. It’s very easy to do….

Here you can see the complete woodgrain texture effect. Let it dry for some time. Next, I used Little Birdie Fiber Paste and Texture Stones in few places with heavy gel medium. After they dried completely, I applied two coats of black gesso .

 Here is the complete look.

Then my fingers I have applied Metallic Wax, using them in this order… first blue and then silver.

Here you can see the beautiful wax effect on that wood grain texture.

Here you can see the complete look. I did the same for both the front and back portions.

Now to give it the look of a gate, I used few metal emblements using E6000 glue.

Next, I selected few images from Little Birdie’s recently launched paper pack ‘Fairy Sparkle’ and some did fussy cutting. I wanted black edges on my images so I stuck all the required images on a black cardstock and did fussy cutting again leaving some black edges on the sides of the images. You can see that in the picture below.

Then, I arranged everything on the front part of the gate. When I was happy with the arrangement, I stuck everything using double sided foam tape and my hot glue gun.

I stuck both the front and back portions on to my album . Once it dried, I started with the other steps. The first thing I noticed that my images had green and pink colours here and there and I have used blue and silver. So I decided to give a uch of green and pink to the base. I have used green  metallic wax and a touch of metallic  pink colour. You can see that in the picture below. It really changes the background.

Here is the final look after adding few more embellishments, glossy accent and glitter. I have used Little Birdie flowers in the corners, highlighted with white chalk paint and used two small sentiments from my stash. I did that because I did not want any thing big to remove focus from my beautifully textured gate.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope the pictures were helpful in explaining the entire process but still if you have any queries please feel free to ask in the comment section.

Love n hugs

Daksha
