Festive Decorative Decoupage Candles

Hello Everyone,

Sumedha here on the blog today! Keeping the festivities in mind which are just around the corner, I have  a festive decor project for you using Itsy Bitsy’s newly launched filament decoupage papers.  The prints are super gorgeous and the papers are easy to work with, especially if you are a beginner.

Scroll down to the bottom for more close up pictures to see how these look with candles on it.

I had these pillar MDF candles in my stash since last year. When I bought the newly launched filament decoupage papers I knew I had to use them on these to turn them into a festive decor.

Let’s begin the creative process of decoupage with a twist. I also want to highlight that I haven’t used any Gesso or Chalk paint as a base on these candles and directly decoupaged the papers to the MDF surface. I tore the amazing  Royal Elephant decoupage filament paper with my hand and stuck it with  the help of brush and soft gel medium. You can use Little Birdie Deco Magic decoupage glue too.

The texture of the decoupage papers is such that you can smooth out any wrinkles without tearing the paper while adhering the paper to surface. Isn’t this print gorgeous.

I have applied a generous coat of  decor varnish on the entire candle and then applied Little Birdie wood stain – Clove Brown on the area where I hadn’t decoupage since I haven’t applied any gesso or chalk paint as a base. It looks a little shabby at this point but I am not to worried since i plan to do something on the stained area.

I had bought Monte Marte gold leaf from the store sometime last year but hadn’t used it till now.  I have taken the a 4×4 stencil – Mandala Duo and applied gilding glue from my stash through stencil with the help of brush. You can use texture tack too. As you can see the glue turn transparent after 30-40 minutes, that’s when is the time to apply the gold leaf on the tacky area.

I have blended the stained area between the gilded area and decoupage area with the help of chalk paints and stamped some leaves clear stamps with the help of black and Paradise Green archival ink .

I also stenciled the remaining sides of the pillar candle with pearl bronze color as shown in the picture.

I  now moved to the smaller candle and stained it with newly launched wood stain Indigo wave on 3 sides.

I cut the image from the second sheet of  royal elephant decoupage filament paper and adhered it to the side which was not stained with the help of soft gel medium again .

I repeated the gold foil process through stencil on this one too and stenciled some portions with bronze pearl color and varnished  it with Decor varnish gloss

This is how the smaller one looks .

Adding some close up pictures shot from different angle.

View from the top. Have added stencil on the top too.

Hope you liked the process as much as I enjoyed making it. Gift these to your  loved ones or use them as festive decor for your homes.
