Happy Home- A Mixed Media Wall Hanging

Hello everyone,

Pooja here today with a mini mixed media wall hanging.

Have a look at the finished project before we begin the step by step tutorial.

Process:

  1. I have used a thick card board as base. First, I pasted a paper from Little Birdie’s Texture Brew pattern paper pack with a wooden effect, onto the base.

2. Did some stencil work with modelling paste. I have used a Little Birdie stencil that gives the look of a tree bark.

3. After it dried, I applied glossy gel medium over it.

4. Thereafter, I used some shades of Little Birdie’s Color Splash over it. The names of the colours are listed below.

5. Then I created a boundary on all the four sides with modelling paste and also stuck some art stones and textures over the wet modelling paste.

6. After everything was dry, I used brown and black acrylic paint  on the boundary.

7. Next, I pasted some craft fiber, wooden sticks on the base and covered them with a layer of white gesso.

8. Used die cut shapes from Little Birdie’s newly launched die sets to make a window frame.

9. Then, I pasted some primed chipboard gears around this window frame.

10. Once done, I covered all the materials with little Birdie black gesso and a layer of brown acrylic paint.

11. I then used chalk paints to color them. Here I have used 3 shades of chalk paints, one by one, using dry brushing technique.

12. When they were dry, I used metallic paints on top, this time too with a dry brush.

13. To add a distressed effect I used Indian red brown and white gesso in the end on random areas.

14. To give it a finishing touch and add a cheery look, I decorated it with Little Birdie flowers, die cut leaves and primed sentiment ‘Happy’ and attached a chain on the rear side for hanging.

Here are some images of the completed project.

Little Birdie’s newly launched thin cut dies are so beautiful and versatile. You can used them in any kind of project, be it mixed media, paper crafting, home decor or anything else. I made a card using die cut shapes from two die sets and would like to share it with you.

Don’t forget to play this month’s Blog Challenge. We love to see your creations.

Keep crafting and be happy
