Heat Tool…..a Crafter’s Essential

Hi folks

This is Suman here and I am here, with a review of a wonderful and essential product for every crafter’s work table. Well it is the Little Birdie Heat Tool…….

Hello Friends

What is the Little Birdie Heat Tool?

If you’ve never used a heat tool, you might be a little intimidated and confused whether you actually need another tool in your crafting kit. Well….the Little Birdie Heat Tool is like a stick-shaped hair dryer. It’s electric, so all you have to do is plug it in and turn it on. The heat is concentrated in the nozzle, and everything is encased in heat-safe plastic, so it is safe and easy to use.

Card makers, album makers, Decoupage artists and 3D crafts involving heat embossing, layering  etc. need to have this fantastic tool with focused powerful drying heat to achieve impressive results.

What is better is that it is made for Indian electrical system and it works on 220V~, 50Hz, 300W specifications.

This comfortable and lightweight tool features one speed setting and can be used on paper, wood, canvas, fabric and more. It’s easy to use, features quiet operation and comes complete with a safety shield nozzle and a built-in bracket for self-support.

You’ll be able to create incredible textured look with texture pastes, embossing powders and speed up your drying time with paints, glues and inks. This fantastic multi-use heat gun is surely a great addition to your arts and crafts kit.

My Personal experience using the Little Birdie Heat Tool

I was really excited to try this essential tool for all crafters for mixed media creations as the various layers in mixed media require drying time between the layers of sprays, paints and textures. Many new crafters trying Mixed media ignore the most important rule of drying in between layers of colors which results in fiasco and hence avoid further trials. So I would say that mixed media requires lot of patience and some help from the heat gun for beautifully layered and textured creations!!

Using Little Birdie Heat Tool is a wonderful way to…

(i) Speed up the drying time for Mixed media layers and to create interesting bubbling textures by heating up pastes and acrylic layers

(ii) Shaping and drying hand-made paper flowers, fabric flowers, shaping foam flowers.

(ii) Drying inks while stamping.

(iv)  Heat embossing

(v) Decoupage projects

(vi) Shrink plastic, yupo paper textures and beads etc.

(vii)  It is fast, fun, easy way to make your cards, scrapbooks, and anything else super quickly.

My Observations

•   Made of high quality ABS plastic outside and stainless steel inside, simple and durable. Indian standard, does not  not require voltage converter.

•   As the left and right sides have a heat sink, the internal temperature of the hot air gun is reduced, and the service life is prolonged.

•   The temperature can not be adjusted, but it can reach at about 200°C / 390°F within a few seconds. Do not use it more than 10 minutes at a stretch, just turn off then turn on for working continuously.

•   Easy to use. Just keep 5-6cm distance from your work surface.

•   Great tool, heats up very quickly and stand keeps it safe when in use.

•   The design is easy to hold and switch on.

•   Would recommend highly as an essential tool for mixed media.

•   Light weight and quiet.

•   Great price for a basic and useful tool.

Mixed media Art Journal Page using the Little Birdie Heat Tool and the newly launched Premier Card stock in Bright White ( 270 GSM)

I also created a mixed media Art Journal page using the Little Birdie Heat Tool and the newly launched Premier Card stock in Bright White ( 270 GSM)

Here are the step by step pictures:

Along with the Heat Tool, Itsy Bitsy graciously sent a lot of other supplies which included the Non-stick Craft Mat and Premium card stock in Bright white, Gold and Black.

Non -stick Craft Mat is another essential for all crafters especially mixed media artists. This Non-Stick Craft Mat is versatile. The multi-purpose reusable mat can be used as a protective sheet for any work table. It is non-porous and heat resistant, easy to clean and convenient to maintain. It’s perfect for projects involving melting, embossing, inks, clay, glue and more. Inks and paints can be wiped off the surface quickly, glue and wax can be peeled off easily. It’s ideal for use while stamping, embossing, painting, distressing, iron-on transfers, working with polymer clay, candle making, soap making and more. It measures 15”x19”.

I decided to use the Premium Card stock in Bright White for this Art Journal page. I cut a panel size of 5-3/4″x 8-1/4″

To prepare the surface for sprays and textures, coat the card stock with Matte medium , clear or white gesso. I used Matte Medium and dried with the heat tool……

After drying , I used Itsy Bitsy Color splash in Lemon Zing, Hot Pink and Lime Splash

Dry and add some splashes with the same colors, dry with the heat tool and add some Gesso with a sponge totone down the colors a bit

I stamped the panel with some texture stamps and Black archival ink. Then I added Hot Pink Color Splash to Mont Marte Modelling Paste to create a custom made texture paste…

I love the beautiful bubble gum color it created through the Irregular dots stencil……..

At this stage, this is the back of the paper, no warping, bleeding of colors on the back in spite of all the color sprays, misting with water and the texture paste layers……loving this card stock for mixed media work…….do remember to seal your paper with clear or white /black gesso or Matte/gel medium and drying with the heat tool in between layers…..

I added some diecuts to finish the page………

Punched holes and added this page in the Chip Board Album from the store ………

I do hope you liked today’s product review and the project, The heat tool is available at a very attractive price right now in the store and online, also lots of offers at the 10th anniversary sale of Itsy Bitsy…so have fun !! many thanks to Rashmi Harish and the Itsy Bitsy team for having me on the blog today .
