Magnet in an Easel Card Featuring Instant Image Transfer Gel

Hello Crafties!

This is Priyanka with my very first blog post as a design team member for Itsy Bitsy – my favorite craft store!

Before I begin my tutorial, I would like to thank Rashmi and Harish for giving me this awesome opportunity. Also, big thanks to Anitha and IB team for their continual help & support.

As you know, the theme for this month’s challenge is – Anything goes with Little Birdie Instant Image Transfer Gel.

For this, I have an easel card for you today.

I am obsessed about making cards and incorporating new products into my cardmaking!

So if you love cardmaking like me or you are into other crafts,  I am sure either way,  you would have fun making this card!

Enough of my banter,  lets begin:

Let’s first make the magnet.

Step 1:

I took a wooden slice from Little Birdie’s collection measuring around 2 inches. These come in a pack of six. So you can make plenty of magnets this way.

I reversed the image of the laser printout before printing. As I wanted my peacock to face in a particular direction.

Step 2 :

Next, with a wide brush, I spread Little Birdie Instant Image Transfer Gel over my wooden slice.

*  Be generous while applying the gel. The first time I tried, I used very little and ended up ruining my project. So please keep that in mind *

I then placed the gel side of the slice on top of my image. I did this so that I could see how the image was being placed.

Step 3 :

After letting it dry for around 15 min I took some water and began dabbing the paper with my finger, slowly, all over.

* Do not rush this step *

After taking out the first white layer of the paper I kept continuing the process. Then little by little the image started peeking out. It is so much fun when you see the image transferred completely onto the slice. Thanks to Instant Image Transfer Gel by Little Birdie.

Transferring images is now fun and easy!

Step 4 :

The image might appear a bit hazy but fret not. Just apply a layer of Little Birdie Decor Varnish and voila –  the image is immediately crisp! You could use Little Birdie Deco Magic too.

Step 5 :

I then applied a small strip of magnet at the back of the slice and my magnet was complete.

Love the fact that this Instant Image Transfer Gel has made transferring images so easy! You should try it to believe it!

Now lets make our easel card :

Step 1 :

I die-cut a sheet of textured white cardstock using the largest frame die from the Ornate Frame die set. Let’s call it a doily.

Step 2 :

I then placed the medium frame circle die (from the same die set) in the center of the doily (using a piece of tape) and cut it with my die cutting machine.

Step 3 :

On this die cut, I smooshed (dabbed)  Ranger Mustard Seed distress ink all over. This step I repeated till I got the desired effect.

Step 4 :

I then used the largest square die from Little Birdie Cross-Stitched Square die set on textured white cardstock.

I did this thrice. So now, I have 3 square pieces.

Step 5 :

On one Square, I masked the middle part by placing the circular die-cut (that we got from step 2 by die cutting the doily). I then stamped a ‘Brick’ stamp by Little Birdie with Mowed Lawn distress ink. I also spritzed some water on it for the color to move.

Let’s call this square the green panel.

Step 6 :

I then adhered the center-cut doily with foam tape onto the green panel and also the stamped the sentiment in the center with Broken China distress ink. The sentiment stamp is from the Dream Catcher stamp set by Little Birdie.

Step 7 :

I scored the 2nd square piece once at the top and then in the middle of the square as shown.

Step 8 :

Now, I adhered the scored square piece to the 3rd square at the small triangle which the black arrow points to.

And stuck the green panel at the large triangle that the pink arrow points to.

This is how it looks :

Step 9 :

For the inside panel, I again used the same Cross- Stitched Square die but now on a light green glitter cardstock from the Glitzy Pastels Stack by Little Birdie. It is pretty glittery in real. The pic doesn’t capture it.

* Coat the cardstock with a wash of white glue to stop the glitter from sticking everywhere *

Then I cut the small triangle off it, and adhered it to the inside.

I also stamped a sentiment from the Jungle Birthday stamp set on a small white triangle piece and adhered it on the inside with foam tape.

This would act as a stopper for the easel card to stand.

Now just place the magnet we made earlier, inside the circular frame of the green panel.

And ta-da our magnet-in-a-card with a hidden message is ready!

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial, as much as ( or even more than ) I enjoyed making it.

Do let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Have a great day ahead!
