Rags to Riches

Hi crafty people,

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year !! May this year bring loads of craft supplies to your desk! 🙂

I started my year with up cycling this lovely tray for a client. The tray had been part of the family for sometime and she asked me to give it a new look. And what could be better than Itsy Bitsy chalk paints to brighten up an old and dull tray. Its a photo heavy post, so sit back enjoy the transformation.

For the first step I cleaned the entire tray with a hard brush to get rid of all the dirt and than painted it with a coat of white gesso(chalk paints do not need a base coat of gesso, but the tray being very old and dull, gesso would help bring in true shades of the chalk paints and helps the paint adhere well to both jute and metal surfaces of the tray.)

I removed all the little flower and button pieces from the tray and painted them individually before putting them back on the tray.

For the tray I thought of giving it a peppy and vibrant color scheme. Also I have used golden spray paint for the handles and for the leaves. A final quote of the Decor varnish would make the tray last forever.

Hope you like the final outcome. Would love to hear from you and do not forget to take part in our ongoing challenge.
