The Girl in the Frame- Mixed Media Layout

Hello everyone!

Lisa here with my next creation for Itsy Bitsy.

Used lots of lovely Itsy Bitsy mixed media products on this project to add lots of different textures.

This is a 12 x 12 inch piece what I am calling ‘The Girl in the Frame’.

I started with ripping a piece of 12 inch Textured White Premium Cardstock  in to strips. I then glued the strips to the centre of a 12 inch square piece of grey board with Craft Glue.

I continually kept on overlaying the cardstock in different directions to create textures and bumps.

I then cut the lengths of the burlap roll into strips. Opened the weave of the fabric, then stuck them around the edge of the grey-board using Little Birdie Matte Acrylic Soft Gel Medium to make a frame.

When the card and the burlap were dry, I painted over the whole surface with white Mixed Media Paste- 2 in 1 gesso and modelling paste.

Using Lime Splash and Ocean Mist color splash to add colour. I concentrated on adding more around the frame rather than the center, to intensify the effect of the colour. I then added more texture to the center using the Mixed Media Paste.

While the Colour Splash and Mixed Media Paste was drying, I worked on the other elements. First, I took a black and white image which I printed on to photography paper. Distressed it, adding creases and scratches to it. I then applied the Two Step Crackle Medium over the surface of the image.

I also added the two step Crackle Medium to the inside packaging of a primed chipboard frame!! Who says you can’t make good use of waste packaging!!!!

I found some old photograph negatives which I cut and painted with the white mixed media paste.

I painted the Hearty Circle primed chipboard with Golden Soot Gold Alcohol Splash.

Thereafter, I sprinkled a small amount of Mixed Media Stones on to a piece of acrylic and added a couple of drops of the Golden Soot Gold Alcohol Splash to colour them.

Making sure the base was dry, I added some splashes of the Golden Soot Gold Alcohol Splash then added all the other elements and added some Little Birdie Flowers – Jacey handmade florets and Sea Foam Dew Drops.

I really enjoyed creating this piece as it incorporates everything I love – Textures and Colours.

Thanks for having a look at my DT project on the blog today.
