Home Decor with Little Birdie Handmade Flowers

Hope you are all doing good. Hema Bhat here with my DT project which showcases how we can create something beautiful with Little Birdie handmade flowers. As you all must be aware about the Itsy Bitsy Blog Challenge#28- “Anything goes using Little Birdie Handmade Flowers”. Please do participate! Below are pictures of the two projects that I made from scrap plywood.

So lets’s begin:

I had 2 pieces of 6” X 9”plywood with me which I thought would be best for this project as most of us have minimal supplies due to lock down. Even with limited craft supplies you can create something beautiful using Little Birdie handmade flowers and Little Birdie chalk paints. I am in love with both of them!

Below is the step by step tutorial:

I primed the plywood pieces using Little Birdie’s Mixed Media paste by adding little water to get the gesso like consistency. After it dried I drew vertical lines by dividing the ply into 3 equal portions. I then used masking tape on the lines so that I could paint the colors neatly.

I chose to color the ply wood pieces in 2 different combinations. On one I chose Little Birdie Chalk Paints –Sailing Sky, Wisteria Mist and Rose Blush. On the second one I choose Muted Teal, Buttermilk and French Rose.

The next step was to highlight the lines with a thin brush using Chalk paint Charcoal diluted with water. I kept shifting the masking tape so that it’s easier to get straight lines. Keep a wet tissue handy to wipe away any excess paint.

Then I mixed Chalk paints Snow and very little Charcoal and diluted them with water and gave the project a wash to give it a weathered look. My method was simple… I ran the brush on one portion and immediately used a wet wipe to remove excess paint.

On one plank I thought of drawing a mason jar to hold the flowers. I used a cardboard as my stencil and drew an outline.

Next, I dabbed chalk paints Charcoal mixed with little Snow on the 4”x 4” stencil Home Sweet Home using a stencil brush. And then heat embossed Little Birdie Clear embossing powder with the help of Emboss It Pens and Little Birdie Heat Gun. This gave it a glossy embossed effect.

I took a heart shaped MDF from stash and colored it using Chalk paint Bubble gum Pink and adhered it using Silicon glue.

Finally gave the entire plank 2 coats of Little Birdie Varnish Glossy giving enough drying time in between.

With the help of silicon glue I adhered a jute twine on the Mason jar outline. Lastly I selected few Little Birdie Handmade flowers from my stash and adhered them using Silicon glue. A simple and beautiful Home décor project is ready.

On the other plank I followed the same process of giving it a weathered look and then added a few hooks to make it a key holder. Just by adding few handmade flowers the project lit up. I am yet to decide what will go in the center…but could be an wooden peg to hold messages, or a pic, or write door/house number, or an embellishment… Your suggestions are always welcome!
