Repurposed Mixed Media Frame

  1. Hello everyone, Pooja here today on the blog with a mixed media project  where I have used a lot of discarded materials. I thought it was a great way to reuse old and unwanted stuff and reduce waste!
  2. As you all know, I am a mixed media artist and I love to experiment with altered projects. I always enjoy turning useless things into  creative and beautiful pieces. Here, I have reused a lot of junk and named it a ‘waste extension frame’.  Lets first have a look at the final outcome.
  3. I have reused this plastic frame from an extension cord.

First of all I covered this frame with cloth, paper and cheesecloth. I simply paste them and applied gesso all over it. You can use any craft glue or Little Birdie decoupage glue for pasting these things. However,  I pasted them directly with white gesso.

After that, I have done some stenciling work with Little Birdie Grainy Texture Paste and a stencil from the store.

After that I pasted dried moss on the outer side and to create dimension, I placed a empty tape roll in side the hollow space. Thereafter, I embellished the frame with different things like MDF cogs, resin shapes and mold,  chipboard shapes, broken pieces from a candle stand etc. You can see how I placed all the things on frame below.

after that I applied black gesso all over the piece.

To add more texture to it, I mixed Texture Sand and stone to a mixture of black gesso  and gel medium. Applied this paste in the empty spaces and wherever I wanted to add them

Now it was time to add colors to it. I have used red and maroon acrylic paints and Gold Alcohol Color Splash.

After I was satisfied with the base colors, I applied Golden Plum, Golden  Glaze, Poppy Red and Sliver Oak metallic paints over it a with dry brush. Also added some more metal embellishments and shining stones.

In the end, for highlighting I used white gesso with a dry brush also I put my son’s picture at the center. I have used colours to match the picture.

Here are some final images of the project.

I hope you liked my project. Watch this place for more inspirations!

Keep crafting and discovering new creative avenues!

Love Pooja
