Hi all,
It is the time for festivals in India and that calls for festive gifts and a fresh home decor! I made a very elegant and royal tray using the new Little Birdie filament decoupage papers and I am here to share the process with you. The filament decoupage papers are very easy to use. They are strong, wrinkle free and perfect for a variety of decoupage techniques as I have described in detail in my previous post this month.
Lets begin with the project!
I chose a classy filament design ‘Paisley Party’ and a MDF tray as my base . Applied Little Birdie white gesso on the MDF tray and let it dry.
Next, I tore off the design from the filament sheet with my fingers. This ensures a smoother blending with the paints.
Next, I painted the sides with Little Birdie chalk paint – Sangria.
I applied Little Birdie Deco Magic glue and adhered the paper where I wanted to. I pressed it with a dry sponge to make sure there were no wrinkles or bubbles. I stenciled with a Lattice stencil and three shades of chalk paints around the motif. I chose Little Birdie chalk paints Wild Wasabi , Muted Teal and Sailing Sky to match the motif. I stenciled with the dabbing method and used a sponge for the process.
I used the same stencil and same paints on the outer sides of the tray. Here I did the stenciling twice so that the colours were bright on the dark base, again using the sponge pieces.
I added some finishing touches, and varnished the whole tray with Little Birdie Decor Varnish and let it dry.
Once dry, I pasted some sequins, again varnished and dried before pouring a coat of Little Birdie resin. The resin is very easy to use. Mix resin and hardener in the ration of 2:1 and pour over the work. All instructions are clearly mentioned on the bottles.
Here is the final look! Pictures cannot do justice to the sheen of resin.
